- The interenal and external will have identicle performance as they
- have the same amount of RAM in the modem portion. The internal modem is
- stuck right on a serial port, which does have some sort of buffer and an
- emulation of a 16550. In my experience, having used both, there is
- absoltely NO difference in performance. A 16550 UART (real one) will run
- just fine at speeds of up to 115.2kbps without losing a character unless
- you run it under brain dead software, in which case an internal modem will
- likely have problems as well.
